Free YouTube Tag Generator — AI-Powered, No Subscription
TagCraft is a free YouTube tag generator that runs entirely on your computer. Paste your video title and description, and the built-in Llama 3.2 AI generates a complete, SEO-optimised tag set — automatically staying within YouTube’s 500-character limit.
TubeBuddy charges $9–$17/month for AI tag suggestions. vidIQ charges $16.58/month. TagCraft does the same thing for free, works without an internet connection after the first download, and keeps your content private — nothing leaves your machine.
How the free YouTube tag generator works
Enter your video title and description into TagCraft, press Generate, and the AI produces a set of comma-separated YouTube tags optimised for search — a mix of broad category tags and long-tail phrase tags. The tag set is automatically trimmed to fit YouTube’s 500-character limit so you never have to count manually.

How to install TagCraft
Mac
Download the .dmg file, open it, and drag TagCraft to your Applications folder. On first launch the app downloads the AI model (~2.6 GB) — keep your internet connection active until that completes. After that it runs offline. Apple Silicon Macs automatically use Metal GPU acceleration for faster generation.
Windows
Download the .exe installer and run it. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning — click “More info” then “Run anyway”. The AI model downloads automatically on first launch.
Linux
Download the .AppImage, make it executable (chmod +x TagCraft*.AppImage), and run it. A .deb package is also available for Debian/Ubuntu systems.
Already have TitleCraft or DescriptionCraft?
All three apps share the same AI model file. If you already installed one, TagCraft will find and reuse it — no 2.6 GB re-download.
YouTube tag generator FAQ
Do YouTube tags still matter in 2026?
Yes — tags are a secondary ranking signal that help YouTube confirm what your video is about. They matter most for disambiguation (is “python” the snake or the language?) and for long-tail search queries that aren’t covered strongly in your title. They’re not the most important factor, but a well-tagged video outperforms an untagged one in niche searches.
How many YouTube tags should I use?
Use as many as fit within the 500-character limit. A typical well-tagged video has 10–20 tags — a mix of 3–5 broad category tags and 10–15 long-tail phrase tags. TagCraft generates this mix automatically and fills the 500-character budget.
Should I use broad or long-tail YouTube tags?
Both. Broad tags (e.g. “video editing”) get your video into category-level recommendations. Long-tail tags (e.g. “how to edit YouTube videos fast on Mac”) target specific search intent and are easier to rank for on a small channel. TagCraft generates both types in every tag set.
Is TagCraft really free?
Yes. No paywall, no subscription, no usage limits. Download once and use it forever.
Does it need an internet connection?
Only once, to download the AI model (~2.6 GB) on first launch. Fully offline after that — the YouTube tag generator works without Wi-Fi.
Is my content private?
Completely. The AI model runs on your device. Your video titles and descriptions are never sent to any server.
